GULF SHORES, Ala. - Paced by a career day from Sydney Snodgrass, the UAB women's golf team moved one spot up the leaderboard to finish in second place at the inaugural Bama Beach Bash held at Gulf Shores Golf Club.
"I'm very proud of the effort the girls showed today," head coach Kim Wilcox said. "They stayed in and fought hard all day. I'm proud of their resilience after the second round."
Up by one stroke with three holes to play, the Blazers finished off an impressive final round to card their second lowest team 18-hole score this season at 295. West Florida maintained its impressive play to take home team honors after shooting a three day 895 (+14).
Snodgrass' career best, 69 (-1), led the Blazers. After an even par opening nine holes, the junior picked up three consecutive birdies on holes 12, 13 and 14 to finish off the back nine at two under par. The West Virginia native finished in fourth place overall.
Rebecca Chandler saved her best round for last bringing a 74 (+3) into the clubhouse to finish tied for 12th. Kayla Wilbourn responded to her second round hole-in-one with a closing round four-over par 75 performance.
Maria Donado improved her score each day by one-stroke and shot a 77 (+6) in the final round. Juliana Sebastian matched her second round 81 with another 81 in closing 18.
The UAB women's golf team returns course with a trip to Atlanta when to compete in the John Kirk Panther Invitational. Play is set to run March 26-28 at Eagles Landing Country Club.
