BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s tennis team lost its second match of the weekend when it dropped a 4-1 decision to Tulane Sunday afternoon from George Ward Park.
Tulane’s Kyla Klier and Christina Sisti defeated Natalie Voss and Taylor Factor 6-0 at No. 3 doubles to give the Green Wave the early advantage. Naz Karagoz and Sofia Kurtz clinched the point for Tulane with a 6-0 win over Marlene Herrmann and Hana Sisirak at No. 2
Kurtz put Tulane ahead 2-0 when she was awarded a singles win at No. 6 by default. Sisti extended the lead to 3-0 following her 6-1, 6-1 victory over Factor at No. 5.
UAB senior Pardis Kianoush tallied her team-leading sixth win of the season when she scored the Blazers’ only point of the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Karagoz at No. 1.
Ivone Alvaro scored the game-winning point in the following match with 6-0, 6-3 victory over Lynch at No. 4.
“We didn’t execute very well in doubles today and we will definitely work on those basics this week,” UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. “I was happy to see Pardis get a win today. She played well in both matches this weekend. If she continues to play like she did this weekend, she may have a chance to jump back in the rankings.”
UAB returns to action Saturday at noon when the Blazers host Chattanooga from George Ward Park.
