GLENCOE, Ala. – The UAB women's golf team sits in sixth place after shooting a 306 in the opening round of the Chris Banister Golf Classic on Sunday afternoon.
"I am happy the way the girls worked on their scores today," head coach Kim Wilcox said. "The greens are difficult and we need to take advantage of the easier hole locations. We definitely are looking forward to tomorrow."
UAB's four and five spot golfers, Kenna Hughes and Imy Huxley, paced the Blazers with an opening round of 76 (+4). The duo is tied for 12th place going into the second round.
Maria Donado and Sydney Snodgrass both turned in a pair of 77s for UAB and are tied for 17th place.
Juliana Sebastian rounded out the Blazer lineup with an 84.
Chanelle Avaricio leads the individual tournament after an opening round of 65 (-7) and set the Chris Banister Golf Classic low-18 tournament record.
Murray State leads the team competition after shooting a one-under par 287 in the first round.
UAB will begin teeing off at 8:15 on Monday morning and are paired with Jacksonville State and Limestone College for the second round.
