UAB Cross Country Shines Under The Lights

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The UAB Blazers Cross Country team opened the 2017 season with a win under the lights at the Memphis Twilight meet.
UAB beat fellow South Region teams Ole Miss, Middle Tennessee, Memphis and Chattanooga.
Times and Results:
The Blazers put five runners in the top 20, here is where they finished:
Emily Drouin – finished second overall for UAB with a time of 18:02.65
Sarah Livett – placed sixth with a finishing time of 18:23.80
Rebecca Evans – came in 13th with a time of 18:38.36
Bethan Evans – was 18th finishing with a time of 18:48.55
Morgan Mihalis – finished 20th with a time of 18:55.13
1. UAB - with an average time of 18:33.70
2. Ole Miss - with an average time of 18:42.84
3. Middle Tennessee - with an average time of 18:48.73
4. Arkansas State - with an average time of 18:55.48
5. Memphis - with an average time of 19:01.42
Course Side with Head Coach Matt Esche:
"The girls were solid tonight. They came out on a mission, brought the fight and did not back down. That fighting spirit will help us accomplish a lot week in and week out," Esche said. "Putting five in the top 20 was very fun to see. We had a few girls that were off a few steps and could have placed in the top 20, thus we know that reinforcements are coming.
"Emily was impressive. She looked strong, fit and you can tell she is on a mission."
Next Up:
The Blazers will have this weekend off before making the short trip to Montevallo for the Falcon Classic on Sept. 16.
