Blazers Take on UAH, North Alabama in First Home Matches of 2018

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team will get its first taste of a home-court advantage this weekend as the Blazers host Alabama-Huntsville for a doubleheader on Friday and square off with North Alabama on Sunday.
Friday's doubleheader will be hosted at the UAB Tennis Courts at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., the first time in program history that the Blazers will play a match on campus. Sunday's match is slated for 1 p.m. and will be held at the Lakeshore Tennis Complex.
The Blazers are coming off a tough 5-2 defeat in its Conference USA opener in Murfreesboro against Middle Tennessee. Sophomore Tim Dollman led the way for the Green and Gold, winning his doubles match with partner Stefan Gonzalez, 6-3, before winning the Blazers' first singles points of the year against the Blue Raiders' Tom Moonen, 6-2, 6-4.
Kenton Parton and Anru Fourie also found themselves in the winner's column in the team's first C-USA match of the year, taking down Max Rauch and Nicolas Buitrago 6-4 as the first win of two to help UAB solidify the doubles point.
UAB is now 3-4 on the year in doubles play, with its other win coming in the first match of the season against No. 14 Mississippi State.
Alabama-Huntsville begins their season this week with its two matches against UAB. The Blazers were extremely successful over the Chargers last season, sweeping their doubleheader by scores of 6-0 in the morning frame and 7-0 in the afternoon.
North Alabama will also kick off its 2018 campaign on Sunday at UAB after finishing last season an impressive 14-6, including a 7-2 conference mark. The Blazers defeated the Lions 5-2 to kick off the 2017 season.
Fans who attend both games will be treated to free pizza at both games while supplies last, while admission to all three matches is free.
