Women's Tennis Hosts Georgia State, Travels to Mercer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's tennis team continues its spring schedule Friday at 10 a.m. by playing host to Georgia State from George Ward Park. The Blazers cap the weekend Sunday at 10 a.m. (CT) when UAB travels to Macon, Ga., to face Mercer.
Friday's home match features a prize court in the 10-minute intermission between doubles and singles where fans are invited to come onto the court and hit tennis balls at targets. Rackets will be provided, and prizes will be awarded if anyone hits a target. Over $150 in prizes, t-shirts and backpacks will all be available to win. Free pizza will also be provided during the break between doubles and singles.

Tjia Talk: "It will be good to get back on the court again to compete as a team. We had a couple of rainouts this past weekend, so I know we are all anxious to get back out there. Georgia State is a national program. They are a regular in the National ITA Kickoff event which features the top 50 or so teams and they are also often an NCAA tournament team, so it will be a very good challenge for us."

Tjia Talk: "We haven't played Mercer in a while, but I know they are very tough. We have shown that we can also play very tough tennis as well, so hopefully we will be able to bring our best effort which should make for a very dramatic and entertaining match."
