HOUSTON – The No. 13 UAB bowling team went 3-2 on day one of the SFA Jack's Invitational and sits in 12th place overall.
"Today was a roller coaster," head coach Michelle Crews said. "Anytime we get to a tournament like this, with such a strong field, you expect to run through the gauntlet and today and tomorrow are exactly that. We gave up a lot of pins today but overall we are in a good position and have a good game plan going into tomorrow's traditional game format."
UAB opened the day with a loss to No. 19 LA Tech but rallied very strong to defeat No. 7 Stephen F. Austin 1,021-994 in game two.
The Blazers rolled by Bethune-Cookman 851-784 in game three and then picked up their third consecutive win in the fourth game, a 932-837 defeat of No. 5 Sam Houston State. The day closed with a loss to No. 4 Vanderbilt.
McKendree leads the tournament going a perfect 5-0 and is ahead of Vanderbilt, also perfect on the day, by 227 pins.
The second round of the tournament is set for Saturday with teams bowling five Traditional games.
