UAB Travels to Troy for the Trojan Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off a busy five game tournament at the Mary Nutter Classic, the Blazers dive right back into the fray this weekend, Feb. 23-25, at the Trojan Classic hosted by Troy in Troy, Ala.

UAB (3-7) will open tournament play against Murray State on Friday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. and will wrap up Day One by playing host Troy Friday night at 7 p.m. The Green and Gold will also square off against Tennessee Tech, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

Need to Know
The Blazers are coming off the Mary Nutter Classic where they finished 2-3, winning two of their last three games. UAB beat Weber State 5-3 as Emily Kachel tossed her first career complete-game and totaled a career high 10 strikeouts.

In its final game of the Mary Nutter, UAB run-ruled Army 9-1 as Kachel picked up her second win of the tournament and third victory overall.

UAB has already faced three teams that made last season's NCAA Tournament (Michigan, Florida and UCLA) and two of those teams (Florida and UCLA) made it to the WCWS. Florida finished runner up to national champion Oklahoma.

UAB still has eight games left this season against NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago.

History Against the Field
The Blazers are 17-21 against the tournament field with winning records against two of the four teams they are playing this weekend.

Murray Sate
UAB is 4-1 versus the Racers and currently have a three-game winning streak in the series. The teams met last season in Birmingham with the Blazers winning 4-0.

Troy
The Trojans lead the all-time series 16-11 but UAB won the last matchup on March, 21, 2017, 3-2.

Tennessee Tech
The Golden Eagles lead the series 4-1 and have won four straight over the Blazers. However, this will be the first meeting since Feb. 17, 2007 which Tennessee Tech won 10-0.

Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville
This will be the second meeting all-time between the two programs. UAB won the first meeting 7-6 on Feb. 16, 2013.

What's Next?
UAB will play its home opener against No. 10 Alabama on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.
