Blazers Fall to South Alabama, 4-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's tennis team saw its six-match winning streak snapped on Saturday as the Blazers fell to in-state foe South Alabama, 4-0, at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
UAB's (12-10, 1-1) Marlene Herrmann and Hana Sisirak were in prime position to win their respective matches against the Jaguars before the match went final, as Herrmann led 6-4, 2-0 on Court 2 and Sisirak was a point away from victory at 6-1, 5-3 on Court 5.
South Alabama got things going early in doubles play as a pair of 6-3 victories by the Jaguars on Courts 1 and 3 saw them take the early 1-0 lead.
From there, the Jags' Yu Fujioka put the home team up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sophie Dodds before 99th-ranked Alexandria Stiteler took down Alex Shchipakina, 6-3, 6-3 on the top court to put USA ahead, 3-0.
Nikola Kohoutova clinched the match for South Alabama with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Dominika Hrabalova on Court 6.
UAB returns to action on April 8 when it closes out the regular season on the road at Southern Miss. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
