HATTIESBURG, Miss. – UAB won Game 3 against Southern Miss Sunday 9-1 at the Southern Miss Softball Complex and clinched its third-straight Conference USA series victory.

The Blazers cranked up the offense in the fourth inning, scoring three runs and erased a one run deficit. With runners on first and second Ashton Clem singled through the right side and scored Megan Smith to tie the game.

Destini England and Natalie Erwin singled in back-to-back at-bats to drive home two more runs and take a 3-1 lead.

UAB (15-24-1, 7-4-1 C-USA) continued the offensive attack tallying three more runs in the fifth. Clem came to the plate with the bases loaded, hit a grounder to shortstop who kicked the ball and Molli Garcia scored from third. England hit a single up the middle which scored two more runs giving UAB a 6-1 lead.

In the seventh, UAB tacked on another three runs using its two-out magic that has proved so beneficial all year. Rachel Rogers singled through the left side of the infield to score England from third.

Claire Blount was up next and singled up the middle driving in Erwin. Garcia smacked a double to left center as Rogers raced from second to home for the third run of the inning and UAB took the win 9-1.

Smith (2-0) got the start for the Blazers in the circle throwing four innings, allowing just one run on eight hits. The senior struck out one without giving up a walk. Emily Kachel tossed three innings in relief and surrendered just a single hit. Kachel picked up her first save of the season.

Southern Miss (15-29, 5-10) took the lead early in the bottom of the first scoring a run on four hits. The Golden Eagles got started with a lead off double and used back-to-back singles to score the run.

Smith stopped the threat and stranded three runners on base.
