UAB Bowling Takes Second Overall at Sectionals

DALLAS - After collecting a total pin-fall of 12,410 over three days, the UAB bowling team finished second overall at the ITC Sectionals held Mar. 8-10 in Dallas, Texas.
With the second-place finish, the Blazes qualified for their second consecutive ITC Championship that will be held in April.
The tournament consisted of 16 - four game Baker sets for a total of 64 Baker games, and saw 14 teams from across the country competing for the chance to advance in the national race.
No. 15 UAB opened games 1-16 with a total pin-fall of 3,090 for an average of 193.13, finishing in third place after the first quarter of matches.
In games 17-32, the blazers moved up to second by posting a pin-fall of 3,222 and an average of 201.38 per game.
Moving through the final two blocks of play, the Green and Gold maintained its position in second place behind the No. 1 ranked McKendree team.
In games 33-48, UAB added 3,063 pins to their total to raise their total to 9,375, separating itself from the third place Wichita State by 169 pins.
In their final showing of the week, the Blazers notched another 3,035 pins to reach 12,410 for an average of 193.91 across the weekend and to finish second out of 14 teams.
Individually, UAB saw four Blazers place in the top-30 out of the 136 bowlers competing.
Leading the weekend and placing fourth overall with a total of 1,262 pins was Rachel Strogin who had four 200+ games out of the six she bowled for an average of 210.3 (183, 186, 205, 224, 219, 245).
Samantha Johnson contributed another 1,167 pins and an average of 194.5 in her six appearances to come in at 22nd (155, 181, 192, 222, 236, 181).
Jamie Krasnigor and Rachel Berg finished sharing the 27th place spot with twin scores of 1,159 for averages of 193.2 across their six games each.
UAB returns to the lanes March 15-17 at the 15th annual Columbia 300 Music City tournament in Smyrna, Tenn.
