Bowling Wraps Up Play at Columbia 300 Music City

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB bowling team placed 17th out of 29 squads at the 15th annual Columbia 300 Music City tournament in Smyrna, Tennessee over the weekend.
No. 16-ranked UAB finished the event with a 6-7 record and faced seven top-25 ranked opponents.
The Blazers opened the weekend by going 2-3 in their Baker matches, claiming victories against Lewis University (945-834) and Kentucky Wesleyan (953-875) while falling to No. 13 Central Missouri (1,007-849), No. 11 Wisconsin-Whitewater (1,023-1,013) and No. 5 Sam Houston State (1,007-981).
Day two saw the Green and Gold go 2-3 in traditional play, overcoming No. 23 Duquesne (978-910) and No. 22 Sacred Heart (1,024-868). UAB's three traditional losses came to No. 20 LIU-Brooklyn (967-836), No. 15 Adelphi and St. Francis-Brooklyn (960-955).
The Blazers notched two wins over LIU-Brooklyn (4-1, 4-1) in tournament play to claim its final spot in 17th place.
Taylor Russell led the charge for UAB individually as she placed fourth overall and was named to the All-Tournament team. Russell recorded three 200+ performances and a collective pin-fall of 1,136 in five games (158, 183, 278, 227, 290).
The Blazers return to the lanes March 22-24 to take part in the MEAC Championship in Chesapeake, Virginia.
