UAB Bowling Hits the Lanes for MEAC Championship

BIRMINGHAM- The UAB bowling team travels to Chesapeake, Virginia to compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship, held Mar. 22-24.
The Blazers enter the conference championship bracket as the No. 4-seed among six teams with a conference record of 15-3.
On Friday, the Green and Gold will take action against No. 5 Monmouth, who holds a 10-8 record in the MEAC.
With a win, UAB would advance to a second match of the day against No. 1-seed Maryland-Eastern Shore (71-43, 13-5). With a loss, the Blazers would play their next game on Saturday against the loser of the No. 3-seed Delaware State and No. 6-seed Howard first-round matchup.
Looking to stay hot on the lanes for UAB will be juniors Caitlin Cunningham and Taylor Russell.
Cunningham enters the post-season as a member of the All-MEAC First Team on the back of a season in which she bowled for over 200 in 18 games. The Hawaii native lead the Blazers in the regular season with 56 game appearances, collecting a total pin-fall of 10,747 for an average score of 191.91 per match.
Russell is coming off of a fourth-place overall performance at the Columbia 300 Music City Tournament in which she bowled for a total pin-fall of 1,136, averaging 227.2. The junior set a career-high in her fifth match of the tournament when she bowled a 290 for her 15th 200+ game of the season.
