TEXARKANA, Ark. – The UAB men's golf team was defeated by UTSA 3-2 in the semifinals of match play at the Conference USA Championship on Wednesday at Texarkana Country Club.
Senior John Hayden and sophomore Nick Robillard won their head-to-head matches, but the Roadrunners were able to earn wins over William Walker III, Murray Naysmith and John Snoddy for the 3-2 victory.
All five matches were very closely contested, and Robillard got the Blazers on the board by winning 3-and-1 against Christian Fanfelle for a 1-0 UAB advantage. Robillard took an early lead on hole two and led for the remainder of his contest before closing it out on 17.
UTSA then went ahead as Chad Sewell defeated Naysmith on the 17th and Collin Clark winning over Walker III on the 18th.
Hayden then tied it up at 2-2 by winning on the 18th green over Michael Rome. Like Robillard, Hayden won the second hole and played with the lead for the remainder.
The final match of the day saw John Snoddy stand toe-to-toe with the C-USA runner up Sean Meehan and take a one-shot lead into 16. However, Meehan caught fire and birdied 16, 17 and 18 to give the Roadrunners the team victory.
UAB finished the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 91-54-3, and now awaits the NCAA selection show on May 2 to see if the Blazers will have representation at Regionals.
