UAB Prepares for Second SEC Bout at Gans Creek Classic

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB cross country team will be competing in its second consecutive SEC-hosted meet on Friday as it travels to Columbia, Mo. for the Mizzou XC Challenge. The women's teams competing will be running a 6,000-meter race that begins at 5 p.m. CT.

UAB will join host Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, North Florida, Southern Illinois, UMKC, Drake, SEMO, Illinois State and Saint Louis in the 11-team field.

The Blazers' best finish as a team to date was in the season-opening Memphis Twilight Classic when the team finished sixth overall. Lauren Robinson and Serena Martinez both placed in the top-20 in the event, running 18:37.95 and 18:41.98, respectively. UAB had four additional runners, Laura Thompson, Celestial Moon, Bethan Evans and Britney Johnson, place in the top 50 in Memphis.

Following Friday's action, UAB will come home to host the Blazer Classic for the second consecutive year. The meet is scheduled for Oct. 18 with race times to be announced on a later date.
