No. 21 UAB Travels to Tennessee for Start of Postseason Play

BIRMINGHAM- The No. 21 UAB bowling team returns to the lanes this weekend when it travels to Smyrna, Tenn. for the USBC Intercollegiate Singles and Team Sectionals.
The sectional will be split into two separate events. On Friday, the Blazers will compete individually in the USBC Intercollegiate Singles. UAB will participate in team sectionals with 32 baker matches on Saturday and 32 baker matches on Sunday for total pinfall only to qualify for nationals.
The Blazers are one of four NCAA ranked teams in the field this weekend, including No. 7 Duquesne, No. 10 North Carolina A&T and No. 14 Sacred Heart. Although there are only four ranked teams, the competition will showcase the best Club, NJCAA, NAIA and NCAA teams in the country.
In their regular season finale, UAB recorded an 8-5 record and finished in 10th place out of 29 after competing against nine ranked teams at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic. Samantha Johnson led the way with an average of 225 (Total Pinfall: 1125) to finish in third place and make the All-Tournament team. Also, Taylor Russell finished with an average of 213.8 (Total Pinfall: 1,069) and Rachel Strogin with an average of 202.2 (Total Pinfall: 1,011) finished in ninth and 24th respectively, rounding out the Blazers in the top 25 individually.
Competing for UAB this weekend in the USBC Intercollegiate Singles and Team Sectionalswill be Taylor Russell, Rachel Strogin, Annie Hurley, Elise London, Samantha Johnson, Cayla Davidson,Katie Hurley and Morgan Mullinax.
