No. 21 UAB Finishes 10th in Regular Season Finale

BIRMINGHAM- After facing off against nine ranked teams,No. 21 UAB recorded an 8-5 record over the weekend to finish in 10th place at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic.
The Blazers started off with five Baker matches on Friday. UAB lost to No. 2 Sam Houston State (959-849) in the first match of the day. The Blazers went on to win the next two matches against Lewis (873-783) and Valparaiso (1002-922) before losing a close match to No. 13 Central Missouri (957-948). UAB defeated Upper Iowa (957-795) to conclude day one with a record of 3-2
On Saturday, UAB started its Traditional match play with back-to-back losses to No. 14 Sacred Heart (980-880) and No. 6 Maryland Eastern Shore (893-851). UAB picked up consecutive confidence-boosting wins against No. 10 North Carolina A&T (999-946), Tusculum (1067-909) and No. 25 Long Island (1125-955) to conclude day two with a 6-4 record.
On Sunday, the Blazers started bracket play. UAB won the first two bracket matches against No. 20 Tulane (4-1) and No. 2 Sam Houston State (4-2). The Blazers would fall in the last match to No. 3 Nebraska (4-1) to finish in 10th place with an overall record of 8-5.
Samantha Johnson led the way with an average of 225 (Total Pinfall: 1125) to finish in third place and make the Columbia 300 Music City Classic All-Tournament team. Also, Taylor Russell finished with an average of 213.8 (Total Pinfall: 1,069) and Rachel Strogin with an average of 202.2 (Total Pinfall: 1,011) finished in ninth and 24th respectively, rounding out the Blazers in the top 25 individually.
UAB starts its postseason schedule this weekend in Smyrna, Tennessee for the USBC Sectionals on March 13-15.
