UAB Softball Travels to Athens for Bulldog Classic

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB softball team hits the road for Athens, Ga. to play in the Bulldog Classic hosted by the University of Georgia. The Blazers will go up against Mercer and Georgia in the three-day tournament.
UAB and Charleston Southern were also originally scheduled to play each other, but the Buccaneers are no longer playing.

LAST TIME OUT
UAB (8-5) is coming off a 4-1 week, with its only loss at No. 4 Alabama on Feb. 24. The Blazers went 4-0 at the UAB Softball Invite, earning victories over Eastern Illinois, Nicholls State and Alabama State.
UAB posted its third shutout of the season with a 6-0 win over Alabama State on Feb. 28 to close out the tournament.
HOT BAT
In UAB's last five games, Jenna Olszewski is batting a team-high .643 with nine hits, four RBIs, four stolen bases and scoring two runs.
On the season, the Hoover, Ala. native, is batting .342, has a team-high six stole bases and is tied with Sam Bean for the most hits on the team (13).
AWARD WINNER
Parker Conrad was named the C-USA Pitcher of the Week on March 1.
Conrad allowed no runs in her three appearances on the week, giving up just three hits and striking out 15 batters in her 10.1 innings of work. She earned her first two victories in the circle as a Blazer.
Conrad has a 1.21 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched this season, a team-high 24 strikeouts and has only allowed eight hits.
SCOUTING THE FIELD:
GEORGIA
The No. 19 Bulldogs (10-2) are currently riding a seven-game win streak. Their last opponent was also UAB's last opponent: Alabama State. Georgia earned a 5-1 midweek victory over the Hornets on March 3.
The Bulldogs' top hitter is Lacey Fincher who currently has a .516 batting averaging in 31 at bats this season. She has hit six home runs and is tied for most RBIs on the team (15).
The last time the Blazers faced Georgia was a 10-2 loss on March 3, 2019. The two teams have faced each other 14 times in program history.
MERCER
Mercer (5-6) enters the tournament having won two of its last three games. Their last matchup was on. Feb. 28 when they fell to Toledo at home in eight innings.
The Bears are also dangerous on the bag. They currently rank 19th in the nation in stolen bases per game, averaging 2.09.
Mercer's top hitter is Danielle Castleberry, who is currently batting .375 through the first 11 games of the season. The team's top slugger is Elisa Rosado (.583), who has a team-high 13 hits.
In the circle, Madi Joice enters the week undefeated at 2-0. She has made seven appearances this season and has a 2.85 ERA.
UAB and Mercer have only played each other twice in program history, both in at a neutral site in Miami. The series is split 1-1.
