BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – An offensive onslaught from four different Blazer goal scorers powered the UAB men's soccer team to a dominant 5-1 victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday.

UAB freshman Nicolai Placzek led all scorers in Saturday's triumph, recording his first and second goals as a Blazer to notch his first-career brace. Placzek's pair of goals marked two of the Green and Gold's seven shots on goal in the nonconference match at Gardner-Webb.

After Placzek opened the scoring in the 27^th minute, Birmingham native and senior Brooks Rice doubled the visitor's advantage with a goal less than nine minutes later. The score marked Rice's third goal of the season and helped the Blazers carry a 2-0 lead into halftime.

UAB (2-4) carried its momentum from the second part of the first half into the second stanza, adding its third goal of the match less than four minutes after the break. Placzek netted his second goal of the afternoon to push the Blazers' lead to 3-0 in the 49^th minute.

Senior forward Nathaniel St. Louis continued his strong start with his team-high fourth goal of the season, extending UAB's lead to 4-0 in 62^nd minute. Junior Willsey League then became the fourth Blazer goal scorer of the afternoon just over four minutes later to make it 5-0.

The Blazers' five goals in Saturday's victory marked their most goals scored in a regular season match since a 7-2 victory over Marshall in 2014. League's solo tally and Placzek's brace help the Blazers feature five goal scorers so far in the 2021 season.

Gardner-Webb (1-6) netted a late goal in 80^th minute to avoid a shutout. Blazer goalkeeper Trevor Jackson earned his first win in net for UAB, making three saves in Saturday's victory.

UAB's offense highlighted efficiency throughout the match, firing seven of its ten shots on target. The Blazers also earned five corners in the win.

The Green and Gold will return home to open Conference USA play against No. 13 FIU (4-1-1) on Saturday, Sept. 25. Kickoff at BBVA Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
