Men's Soccer Ties Temple in First-Ever Meeting

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Men's Soccer (3-8-4, 1-4-3 AAC) tied with Temple (4-8-3, 1-6-1) on senior night at PNC Field, 1-1. The Owls held a 17-8 advantage in shots on the night.
UAB took the lead in the first half on a Temple own goal in the 37th minute. Mayno Linares played the ball back in front of the net and the Owls' defender deflected the ball across the line for a goal.
The Owls evened the score early in the second half. Following a corner, Fridtjof Andberg's header deflected off the post but went right back to him and he did not miss on the second attempt.
Jack Hudson came up with a big diving save on Mike Eijgendaal's shot from distance a few moments later to keep the Blazers in it. Eijgendaal had another opportunity to put Temple ahead in the 63rd minute, but his shot deflected off the crossbar.
In the 64th minute, Elyad Shojaei of Temple was issued a red card, giving the Blazers a numbers advantage for the remainder of the contest.
Despite a few good chances, UAB was unable to come up with a go-ahead goal. Brooks Rice's shot with 18 seconds remaining was saved by the Temple keeper to end it in a draw.

The Blazers will travel to Memphis to take on the Tigers on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. CT to conclude the 2022 season.

- The Blazers celebrated senior night, honoring five seniors in Jack Hudson, Brooks Rice, Teodor Thorvaldsen, Willsey League and Nathaniel St. Louis.
- The meeting between the Blazers and Owls was the first of the series.
- UAB wraps up the 2022 season with a 3-3-3 home record.
- The Blazers finish the season undefeated at home during AAC play.
