Softball Set to Take on Troy in 2022 Home Opener

BIRMINGHAM-Β UAB softball will take on Troy University tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at Mary Bowers Field.Β

The Blazers (1-4) will be looking to regain momentum after dropping four games last weekend in the Evangeline Bank and Trust Invitational.Β

Sarah Cespedes is leading the Blazers in pitching with a 2.92 ERA over 12.1 innings, and Lindsey Smith leads UAB in batting with a .400 average, a double, a triple, and two RBIs. Eight Blazers currently hold perfect fielding percentages.Β

Troy (4-1) is coming off a successful opening weekend, with two wins each versus Purdue-Fort Wayne and Southern Illinois.Β Sun Belt Pitcher of the WeekΒ Leanna JohnsonΒ (2-0) leads the way in the circle after recording a 1.24 ERA with 28 strikeouts over 17 innings of work. Kelly Horne leads Troy in batting with a .625 batting average, a double, two home runs, nine walks, and five RBIs.Β
