Softball Hosts Blazer Classic

BIRMINGHAM- The UAB softball team will take on three opponents in the Blazer Classic this weekend at Mary Bowers Field. The Blazers will take on Toledo, North Dakota, and Murray State over the span of three days. Below is a full tournament schedule:
Friday, February 18:
10:00 a.m. – Murray State vs. Toledo
12:30 p.m. – Murray State vs. North Dakota
3:00 p.m. – UAB vs. Toledo
5:30 p.m. – UAB vs. North Dakota
Saturday, February 19:
10:00 a.m. – North Dakota vs. Toledo
12:30 p.m. – Toledo vs. Murray State
3:00 p.m. – UAB vs. North Dakota
5:30 p.m. – UAB vs. Murray State
Sunday, February 20:
10:00 a.m. – Toledo vs. North Dakota
12:30 p.m. – UAB vs. Murray State
"Three very good teams are coming to play us." Said Head Coach Joe Guthrie. "We will need to execute better in all areas of the game this weekend for victory."
UAB LATELY: The Blazers are looking to get back on track after an opening weekend that saw UAB go 1-4, and a hard fought loss to Troy last night. Sophomore Lilly Crowe leads the way with a .624 slugging percentage, and Olivia Valbak has tallied 11 strikouts from the mound, while Sarah Cespedes is 1-1 in her pitching appearances so far.
SCOUTING THE FIELD-
TOLEDO:
The Rockets are 2-3 after an opening weekend that saw two victories against Charleston Southern, one loss to Charleston Southern, and two setbacks versus UNC-Wilmington. MAC Player of the Week honoree Dayna Denner leads the Rockets in hitting with a 1.333 slugging percentage.
MURRAY STATE:
The Racers are currently 2-3, and are coming off a 9-0 five inning win versus Western Illinois. Logan Braundmeier leads Murray State in slugging percentage with a .857% mark. Seven Racers currently hold a perfect fielding percentage.
NORTH DAKOTA:
North Dakota is led by Madi Moore, who holds a .500 slugging percentage. At pitcher, senior Jannay Jones has a 2.10 ERA with 12 strikeouts through 13.1 innings.
Friday's games are a part of Youth Jersey Friday, where any fan aged 17 and younger can get free admission to the game when wearing a school/club jersey or shirt.
Softball season tickets are available by purchasing the 2021-22 Gold Card for $65 here. The 2021-22 Gold Card will get you access to all home events for Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Softball, and Baseball (Regions Field & Young Memorial).
