Women’s Tennis Has Three Match Homestand This Week

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team plays three matches in Birmingham this week beginning with North Alabama on Feb. 1 at George Ward Park. Match time is 2 p.m. Feb. 3, the Blazers host Alabama A&M, also a 2 p.m. start at George Ward Park. The week wraps up with a rescheduled match against Kennesaw State on Mar. 5 at the UAB Campus Courts at noon.
UAB LATELY
UAB (6-4) has its six-match unbeaten streak ended on Feb. 26 when they fell to South Alabama 7-0. Prior to that the Blazers had a perfect month of February, defeating Samford, Central Arkansas, Chattanooga, UT Martin, Jacksonville State and Lipscomb.
NORTH ALABAMA LATELY
North Alabama (0-10) has not won since April 2, 2021. The Lions are 6-45 in single matches and 2-24 in doubles this season. UNA is coming off a 5-2 loss to WKU on Feb. 20.
THE SERIES AGAINST NORTH ALABAMA
UAB leads the all-time series 10-0, 8-0 in Birmingham. The teams first met in 1993 and have played each of the last four years.
LAST MATCH AGAINST NORTH ALABAMA
UAB defeated UNA 6-1 on March 3, 2021. In doubles, Adela Wasserbauerova and Dominika Hrabalova were 6-1 winners on Court 1. Annalisa Smith and Megan Bertrands clinched the point on Court 3 with a 6-3 victory.
Smith was the first singles player done, winning her match 6-2, 6-0 on Court 5. Jana Hecking was victorious on Court 1 6-2, 6-1. Wasserbauerova got the clincher on Court 2, 6-2, 6-2. Sydney Clarke was a 6-4, 6-3 winner on Court 5 and Bertrands took a straight sets win 7-5, 7-5 on Court 4.

Alabama A&M (3-5) is coming off a 6-1 loss to Jacksonville State on Feb. 25. All three victories have come in SWAC play (Southern, Grambling State, Bethune-Cookman). They have a singles record of 14-28 and a doubles record of 7-14.
THE SERIES AGAINST ALABAMA A&M
UAB leads the all-time series 7-0, all matches have been in Birmingham. The Blazers and Bulldogs first played in 2004. After a 12-year hiatus, they have met each year since 2016.
LAST MATCH AGAINST ALABAMA A&M
UAB won its second consecutive match after defeating Alabama A&M on Feb. 14, 2021 7-0. In doubles, Sydney Clarke and Alexandra Da Silva made quick work of Ximena Duarte Ramirez and Nthabiseng Mashego on Court 2, 6-0. Jana Hecking and Annalisa Smith were 6-3 winners over Camila Ruiz Dias and India Woods on Court 3. Adela Wasserbauerova and Dominika Hrabalova held off Anita Bozhko and Jasmine Boyd on Court 1 by the score of 7-5.
In singles, Smith put UAB ahead 2-0 after a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Woods on Court 6. Wasserbauerova took out Bozhko 6-2, 6-2 on Court 2 making the score 3-0. Megan Bertrands had the clincher on Court 3 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ruiz Dias. Hecking defeated Boyd 6-3, 6-3 on Court 1. Hrabalova was a 6-2, 6-1 winner against Duarte Ramirez on Court 4 and Clarke defeated Neha Ghare 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (5) on Court 5.

KENNESAW STATE LATELY
Kennesaw State (6-0) has already equaled last season's win total. The Owls defeated Georgia State 4-3 on Feb. 26. 4-3. The Owls are 28-8 in singles and 10-4 in doubles. All six of KSU's sigles players have winning records, led by Ji Youn Lee with six victories.

UAB leads the all-time series 10-0, 6-0 in Birmingham. The teams first met in 2010.

UAB won its 10th match in its last 11 tries and fourth in a row on April 4, 2021 after defeating Kennesaw State 4-2 at Betty Siegel Courts. The Blazers (12-6) dropped the doubles point, but rebounded by winning four of the decided five singles points. Annalisa Smith won her 10th straight match when she got the Blazers on the board after a 6-3, 6-1 win on Court 6. Sydney Clarke put UAB ahead 2-1 on Court 4 after a 6-3, 60-3 victory. Dominika Hrabalova won her ninth straight match after a 6-4, 6-3 win on Court 3 and Adela Wasserbauerova got the clincher on Court 2,- 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
