#1 Oklahoma Edges UAB
4/2/2022 3:35:00 PM | Softball
NORMAN- UAB softball fought hard and pushed for an upset versus #1 Oklahoma this afternoon, but ultimately fell 2-0 in Norman.
The Blazers (20-13, 8-1) left a runner stranded on first base in the top of the first inning, and Oklahoma (32-0, 3-0) left two runners on base in the bottom of the first inning. Most of the game followed that script, with the score remaining knotted at 0-0 until the sixth. In innings 2-5, both teams deadlocked, and played outstanding defense. Despite the fielding effort from UAB, Oklahoma scored back to back solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth, that gave OU a 2-0 lead. UAB got a runner on base in the top of the seventh, but popped out to end the game 2-0.
UAB held Oklahoma to six hits on the day. Jocelyn Alo failed to get on base for the first time this season for OU.
Sarah Cespedes (8-3) was given the loss in the circle, after pitching the entire game for UAB. Lilly Crowe hit a triple in the top of the second.
The Blazers will take on Samford in a midweek game this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
