UAB Men's Tennis Bests Samford, Falls to Alabama State

HOMEWOOD & MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team split a pair of matches this week, earning a resounding 6-1 crosstown victory over Samford before falling 5-2 at Alabama State on Friday in Montgomery.
UAB 6, SAMFORD 1
The Blazers opened this week with a dominant 6-1 win at Samford, winning the doubles point before reeling off five wins in singles. With the doubles point tied 1-1 after Roman Postolka and Nikola Puric notched a 6-4 win on court three, Chase Parker and Parker Bradbary notched a 7-6 (11-9) win on court two to give UAB a 1-0 lead.
Ace Michal Lusovsky, Vojtech Podzemny and Roman Postolka swept the top three courts for the Blazers on Thursday, earning two of the three victories in straight sets. Lusovsky quickly dispatched Samford ace M.A. Bellalouna 6-4, 6-3, while Roman Postolka defeated Yerrassyl Murat 6-1, 6-2 on court three. Podzemny rallied from a 6-3 defeat in set one to post a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win on court two.
Martin Vasquez also earned a win in straight sets, recording a 6-2, 6-2 win over Samford's Harrison Williams on court two. Fellow freshman Noah Malige earned UAB's second three-set victory on Thursday, rallying from a 6-3 loss in the opening set to defeat Samford's Will Gray 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 on court six.
UAB's win at Samford snaps a two-game losing streak to the Bulldogs and moves the Blazers to 15-4 all-time against their crosstown rival.
ALABAMA STATE 5, UAB 2
UAB concluded its week with a 5-2 setback at Alabama State. The Hornets earned a win in doubles before winning three of the first four singles matches to seal the win over the Blazers.
Michal Lusovsky moved to a team-best 12-6 on the season with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 win over Alabama State ace Chris Andre. Lusovsky has played all 18 of his matches in the No. 1 spot for the Blazers and is 8-2 in his past 10 singles matches.
Roman Postolka earned a 6-1, 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot on Friday, improving to 11-4 on the season. Postolka has won four straight matches and 10 of his past 11 singles matchups for the Blazers.
UP NEXT
UAB will travel to Tuscaloosa for its second match of the spring against the Crimson Tide. UAB's second matchup against Alabama is set for 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 10.
