UAB’s Comeback Falls Just Short in 4-3 Loss at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Faced with a 3-0 deficit in Sunday's match at Alabama, the UAB men's tennis team fell just one match short of a historic comeback in Tuscaloosa, falling 4-3 to the Crimson Tide at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
After a setback in doubles, the Crimson Tide extended their lead to 3-0 with wins on courts three and five. The Blazers then started their comeback, earning victories in straight sets on courts six, four and one to tie Sunday's match at 3-3.
Noah Malige earned the first win in singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court six. Thanos Spyropoulos then trimmed UAB's deficit to 3-2 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Alabama's Joao Ferreira on court four. Ace Michal Lusovsky made it three straight wins on court one with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory over Enzo Aguiard.
With the score tied at 3-3, Sunday's match came down to a decisive third set on court two between Roman Postolka and Alabama's Patrick Kaukovalta. Postolka earned an early break in the third set, taking a 3-0 lead. Kaukovalta, however, would win six straight games to seal the win for the Crimson Tide with a 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory, snapping Postolka's four-match winning streak.
In doubles play, Parker Bradbary and Vojtech Podzemny had a 5-2 lead on court two before their match went unfinished. Alabama clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court one and a 6-2 win on court three.

UAB will conclude its home schedule on Friday when the Blazers host Tennessee Tech and West Alabama for a doubleheader at the Lakeshore Tennis Courts. UAB's opening match against Tennessee Tech is scheduled for noon, while the Blazers' final match of the day is set to begin at 4 p.m.
