UAB Concludes Home Schedule Friday Against Tennessee Tech, West Alabama

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's tennis team will host Tennessee Tech and West Alabama for a doubleheader at the Lakeshore Tennis Courts on Friday to conclude its 2022 home schedule.
Friday's opening match against Tennessee Tech is scheduled for noon, while UAB's final match of the day is set to begin at 4 p.m. against West Alabama.
UAB LATELY
UAB (7-13) dropped a heartbreaker at Alabama on Sunday, falling 4-3 to the Crimson Tide at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. Faced with a 3-0 deficit in Sunday's match, the Blazers reeled off three straight wins in singles to tie the match at 3-3. Noah Malige, Thanos Spyropoulos and Michal Lusovsky all won in straight sets to tie the match at 3-3.
With the score tied at 3-3, Sunday's match came down to a decisive third set on court two between Roman Postolka and Alabama's Patrick Kaukovalta. Postolka earned an early break in the third set, taking a 3-0 lead. Kaukovalta, however, would win six straight games to seal the win for the Crimson Tide with a 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory, snapping Postolka's four-match winning streak.
Lusovsky, who was named to the 2022 Conference USA Men's Tennis All-Academic Team on Thursday, has won three straight matches and nine of his past 10 matchups on court one. Lusovsky (13-6) and Postolka (11-5) pace the Blazers in singles victories.
Overall, UAB holds a 49-64 record in singles play and a 19-33 record in doubles play this season.
TENNESSEE TECH
Tennessee Tech (4-11) holds a 3-2 record in its past five matches, earning wins over Chattanooga, Eastern Illinois and Tennessee State. The Golden Eagles sport a 2-0 record in Ohio Valley Conference play, defeating Eastern Illinois and Tennessee State 6-1.
Five Golden Eagles have winning records in singles, highlighted by sophomore Evzen Holis, who holds a team-best 16-11 record this season. In doubles, Mika Berghaus and Elias Grubert hold a team-best 7-6 record.
UAB is 1-1 all-time record against Tennessee Tech, defeating the Golden Eagles 4-3 in Birmingham in 2019 before falling 6-1 at Tennessee Tech this past season.
WEST ALABAMA
West Alabama (7-8) has dropped three straight matches after reeling off a season-best five-match winning streak from March 21-27.
Loic Danze leads the Tigers with a 10-2 record in singles this season, holding a perfect 4-0 record on court four. Overall, the Tigers are 44-38 in singles and 23-20 in doubles play this spring.
Friday's matchup will mark the first meeting between the two programs.
