BIRMINGHAM – The Department of Athletics, in conjunction with Birmingham-based company INFLCR, has released the UAB Local Exchange to maximize Name, Image and Likeness for Blazer student-athletes.
The UAB Local Exchange allows registered businesses and student-athletes to connect, negotiate and complete NIL deals in a streamlined fashion. The technology serves as a directory to connect businesses, collectives, donors, alumni and fans with Blazer student-athletes for consolidated NIL transactions.
"We want to be a leader in Name, Image and Likeness, and adding the UAB Local Exchange will enhance our footprint in the in this space while allowing our partners in Birmingham and the state of Alabama a one-stop-shop to complete NIL transactions," said Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "We have partnered with INFLCR since their inception and are excited to take the next step with them through the UAB Local Exchange."
The UAB Local Exchange is a custom-designated student-athlete NIL business registry for businesses, collectives, donors, alumni and fans to connect with UAB student-athletes. Once a business or individual registers in the UAB Local Exchange, they will have access to a searchable database of UAB student-athletes and can message student-athletes directly to start a discussion about an NIL transaction. INFLCR and UAB will not be involved in any of the negotiations.
Once the agreement is reached, a form that is compliant with UAB's NIL guidelines is generated and forwarded to the institution. The Local Exchange also includes a secure payment processing tool which also consolidates all transactions into one 1099 tax form inside of the student-athletes' app for more efficient tax reporting.
Businesses or individuals can register for the UAB Local Exchange by clicking here.
"This is big for our city," said Birmingham resident and INFLCR Founder Jim Cavale. "If Birmingham and UAB supporters want to step up and fuel the future, the UAB Local Exchange is now in place to make it extremely easy to do so."
