Big 1st Half Lifts UAB to 2-1 Victory Over Rice on Senior Day

BIRMINGHAM – Seniors Izzy Passman and Asha Zuniga each scored goals in the 1st half to lift UAB to a 2-1 victory over Rice on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field.
With the win, UAB's first in AAC play, the Blazers improve to 5-4-5, 1-1-4 AAC.
The first goal was set up by Caitlin Keeling taking advantage of a Rice turnover to find Sidney McGregor who fed Passman. Two dribbles later, she found the back of the net, just over the outstretched arm of Owls' keeper Hannah Pimentel in the 6th minute.
Zuniga's goal was a header off a free kick from Graycen Elliott in the 34th minute.
Keeper Eve Beyer made three saves to record her 20th career win.
The Blazers take to the road to face No. 9 Memphis Oct. 19 and Tulsa Oct.22. The regular season finale is Oct. 26 against Temple at PNC Field.

- The UAB Women's Soccer Class of 2023 - Canby Biddle, Beyer, Morgan Halliwill, McGregor, Passman, Haley Skupa, Melina West, Jessica Wheeler and Zuniga were honored in a post-match ceremony
- This was Keeling's first career assist
- Zuniga moved into 10th place on UAB all-time matches played list with 79
- UAB remains in fifth place in the East Division – one point behind FAU and Charlotte
