Women’s Basketball Heads to Jacksonville State for Wednesday Night Contest

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball hits the road to face Jacksonville State on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
The Blazers enter Saturday's game 3-0 and is the only AAC team to go undefeated so far this season, while Jacksonville State is 2-1 on the season. The game marks the 10th time the two teams have faced each other and UAB leads the all-time series 7-2.
Jacksonville State is coming off a 72-41 win at South Carolina State last Friday, while the Blazers earned a 92-66 victory against Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.
Tracey Bershers led UAB with a career-high 22 points while Journey Armstead had a season-best 16 points and added five assists. Jade Weathersby recorded double digits for the third consecutive game with 13 points and collected nine rebounds. Rayne Tucker tallied 10 points along with Maddie Walsh who had 10 points and also recorded double digits for the third consecutive game.
The Green and Gold built their biggest lead against MVSU in the fourth quarter at 28 points and scored 51 points in the second half. UAB scored 40 points in the paint and shot 49 percent while holding Mississippi Valley State to shooting 39 percent. The Blazers out-rebounded the Devilettes 47-34.
Weathersby leads UAB with 15.3 points per game while Walsh is following behind with 14.0 points per game. Sara Bershers is averaging 12.0 points per game while Armstead (11.7) and T. Bershers (11.3) are also averaging in double figures. Weathersby is also leading in the rebound category with 10.7 rebounds per game.
Offensively, Jacksonville State is led by Mya Barnes who averages 11.3 points per game and Bre'Anna Rhodes who is averaging 9.3 points per game.
