BIRMINGHAM - Despite running without two of their top runners, the UAB Cross Country team finished third in the JSU Foothills Invitational at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama. The Blazers' top 5 runners all finished in the top 26 of the race.
"I thought we had a very good opener. The girls put themselves in a good position from the start and closed well," said Head Coach Travis Pope. "We sat two of our top girls and still finished in the top 3, really excited to see how we do at our next meet with our full team."
The Green and Gold were led by Lia Castillo (18:57) and Kyra Hayes (18:59), who placed 11th and 12th overall, respectively.
Ava Brooks was the Blazers' third finisher coming in 16th overall (19:09). Hannah Stevens (19:24) came in 24th overall and Anna Behmer (19:27) placed 26th.
Kaitlyn Wende (19:50) and Sangie Lincoln-Velez (20:45) also contributed to the Blazers' scoring.
The Blazers' next race is Friday, September 13 as they compete in the Southern Showcase at John Hunt Cross Country Park in Huntsville, Alabama also hosted by Jacksonville State.
