UAB Baseball to Open Season at Swig & Swine College Classic in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. - UAB Baseball opens its season in Charleston, S.C. on Friday at the Swig & Swine College Classic. The Blazers are set to take on Maryland on Friday, Mercyhurst and Towson in a twin bill on Saturday, and wrapping up the weekend on Sunday vs. Ball State.
The Green and Gold had 22 players depart from the 2024 team, including first team All-AAC selection Blayze Berry. However, an ample amount of talent loaded with collegiate experience comes to Birmingham as the Blazers have 25 newcomers on this year's roster. Four players come in with Division 1 experience and 12 players come from the junior college ranks to go along with nine prep players.
This season, the Blazers are led by AAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year and unanimous All-AAC selection Colin Daniel. Logan Braunschweig and Gavin Lewis Jr. also return to the team for their senior seasons.
MARYLAND TERRAPINS
2024 Record: 34-22
The Blazers' first test of the season comes against Big Ten power, Maryland. The Terrapins were a 30-win team in 2024 and were led by All-Big Ten First Team infielder, Eddie Hacopian. His brother, Chris, was named All-Big Ten Second Team as well as the All-Freshman Team. Eddie was named to 1st Team All-Big Ten on Wednesday, while Chris was named to 2nd Team. The duo will be part of a slew of returning bats to the Terps' lineup. LHP Kyle McCoy was named to the conference's Players to Watch List. This is the first meeting all-time between the Blazers and Terrapins.
Maryland ranked 48th in the final RPI rankings from a year ago.

The Green and Gold's first game of Saturday's doubleheader comes against Mercyhurst from the Northeast Conference. The Lakers finished 21-20 in 2024 and are entering their first season of Division I baseball.
The Lakers are projected to finish seventh in the Northeast Conference in 2025. First pitch will be at noon ET on Saturday on Wando River Field. Follow the game live via Statbroadcast.

The Towson Tigers will face off against the Blazers in game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. The Tigers return infielders Jordan Peyton and Taye Robinson who earned All-CAA honors last season. Peyton was named Preseason All-CAA last week, while Casey Bishop earned Honorable Mention honors.
The Tigers are picked to finish 12th in the CAA in 2025. UAB and Towson are slated to play at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday on Wando River Field. This is the second meeting all-time between the Blazers and Tigers, with UAB taking the lone matchup between the schools 17-9 on March 21, 1992. Follow the game live via Statbroadcast.

The Blazers' final game of the weekend comes against the Ball State Cardinals of the MAC. The Cardinals return multiple players who earned All-MAC honors, including first baseman Blake Bevis and MAC freshman pitcher of the year Keegan Johnson.
The Cardinals finished third in the MAC regular season in 2024 and fell in the conference tournament championship game vs. Western Michigan.
Ball State is projected to finish first in the MAC in 2025. First pitch between the Blazers and Cardinals is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET on Sunday on Detyens Field. Ellis (Central Alabama CC), Wesley Helms (Shelton State CC), Patrick McGlon (Southern Union CC), Matthew Roncalli (Northwest Mississippi CC), Jaden Anderson (Southern Union CC), Nathan Shelton (Shelton State CC), Wesley Moore (Central Alabama CC), Landon Carroll (Wallace State CC), Caleb Pittman (Shelton State CC), Todd Clay (Pensacola State JC), and Blake King (Mississippi Gulf Coast CC) all played junior college baseball in 2024.
Tyler Harrington (Southwest Tennessee CC), Ty Mauldin (Snead State CC), Andrew Hunt (Wallace State CC), and Brock Hill (Snead State CC) also have previous junior college experience.
