Softball Gears Up for Green and Gold Classic

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Softball team (6-3) will host the Green and Gold Classic at Mary Bowers Field this weekend February 21-23. Purdue (6-5), Southern Indiana (1-4), Belmont (5-5), and Samford (6-3) will travel to Birmingham to play in the tournament.
UAB is set to host their eighth straight softball tournament dating back to 2018. A combined record of 24-20 will step onto the field starting on Friday. The temperatures will be in the 30's when the action starts and we will see temperatures in the 40's and 50's on Saturday and Sunday.
UAB has started off the season with a 6-3 record after the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, AL. UAB faced off against Samford twice last weekend and will play them once again this weekend.
Last year the Blazers finished in 6th place in the AAC with a 14-13 record. UAB was picked 7th in this year's AAC Preseason Poll. Head Coach Taylor Smartt starts her second stint as a collegiate head coach with the first coming in interim form. She was the Interim Head Coach at Troy for the 2022 season.
Bella Wiggins is 7th in the Nation in stolen bases with 10. UAB is ranked 25th in batting average (0.362), 3rd in triples per game (0.78), and 19th in stolen bases per game (2.44).
