UAB Splits on Final Day of FAU Invitational

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The UAB beach volleyball team split on the final day of the FAU Invitational with a 3-2 victory over Tampa and a competitive 4-1 loss to No. 13 Florida Atlantic.
The Blazers (10-6, 1-2 CUSA) went 2-2 at Pompano Beach this weekend which included a win over nationally-ranked Georgia State on Friday.
UAB's Court 4 pair of Kléa Sirois and Lauren Cairo had a perfect 4-0 weekend which propelled the Blazers to a really strong showing. Sirois now has a team-best 13-3 overall record this season.
On Saturday, the Blazers opened the day with a 3-2 win over the reigning DII National Champion Tampa. Courts four and five were victorious in straight sets to give UAB a 2-0 lead, and the Court 1 pair of Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant secured the win with a straight set victory.
Against FAU, Sirois and Cairo gave UAB a point in the first wave, but FAU surged ahead 2-1 with a Court 3 victory and followed that up with three-set wins on courts one and two for the 4-1 win.
UAB now enters its only bye week of the season and then heads to Phoenix fort a tournament at Arizona State and Grand Canyon.
