Blazers Dominate Game Three in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – The UAB Softball team (19-23, 8-10) shutout UTSA (16-25, 3-15) by a score of 8-0 to win the series.
This is UAB's third series win of the year, beating Memphis and Tulsa already. UAB left two runners on base in the through the second, Lindsey Smith got picked off just before Alyssa Aguilar stepped up and hit a single.
The Blazers finally broke through in the third inning with a run on a UTSA throwing error. Bella Wiggins reached on a ball hit to third that would score Hannah Dorsett. The Blazers exploded for seven total third inning runs thanks to back-to-back RBI singles by Hope Tucker and Lindsey Smith. Then Alyssa Aguilar hit a deep grand slam to end the scoring in the third inning. Aguilar now has 17 RBIs on the season.
UAB allowed just two hits through three innings with McLendon striking out three batters. She ended up striking out four in her seven innings pitched.
Bella Wiggins and Hannah Miles both singled in the sisth inning, but UTSA got out of the jam with a double play. The only other run came on another Aguilar home run to give the Blazers an 8-0 win.
Aguilar finished her day 4 for 4 totaling five RBIs and two home runs.
UAB is two games ahead of Tulsa and just one game back from sixth place Wichita State.
The Blazers are back in action Tuesday against Troy at 5:00 p.m. at Mary Bowers Field.
