However, the Green and Gold had a hot start out of the gate in the bottom of the 1st. UAB loaded the bases with nobody out as Hayslip sent one out to straight away center field for his 12th home run and his third grand slam of the season. The Blazers led 4-0 after one.
Florida Atlantic answered back with three of its own in the top of the 2nd. The Owls got their first run on a wild pitch that scored Nick Romano. Later, Jake Millan hit a 2-run home run to cut the UAB lead to 4-3.
FAU tied the game at four in the top of the 3rd on a solo home run by John Schroeder.
The game would be tied until the top of the 6th when the Owls broke the game open. Millan's second home run of the game was a grand slam to right center. On the next pitch, Carter Brady hit a home run to the same spot of the field to put FAU up 9-4.
The Blazers got a run back in the bottom of the 6th on a Gavin Lewis Jr. single that scored Tyler Waugh that cut the FAU lead to 9-5.
FAU got the run back in the top of the 8th as Brady singled to center to score Romano and upped its lead to 10-5.
The Owls' second instance of hitting back-to-back home runs occurred in their half of the 9th inning. Schroeder and John Martinez each hit solo home runs to extend their lead to 12-5.
UAB mounted a rally in the bottom of the 9th as it loaded the bases again. That's when Camden Hayslip hit his second grand slam of the game to cut the lead to 12-9 but it was not enough as the Green and Gold fell by a final of 12-9.
