UAB Athletics Launches Competitive Excellence Fund

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Department of Athletics has announced the launch of the Competitive Excellence Fund, a new opportunity to support UAB student-athletes. Incorporated into Blazer Boosters, this initiative strengthens the ability to recruit, retain, and develop UAB student-athletes.
Following last Friday's approval of the House Settlement, and beginning July 1, 2025, UAB will be allowed to share revenue directly with student-athletes. Donor support through the Competitive Excellence Fund will enhance baseline revenue sharing projections UAB has formulated by utilizing new revenue, expense reductions and reallocating existing dollars. By investing in student-athletes and equipping coaches with the tools necessary to build and sustain competitive excellence, the Competitive Excellence Fund ensures that UAB Athletics has the championship resources needed to compete at the highest level.
"The creation of the Competitive Excellence Fund exhibits the continued evolution of college athletics along with UAB's commitment to pursing excellence in everything that we do," said Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "In addition to donor support, we will continue to uncover creative measures to generate additional revenues towards revenue sharing. I encourage alumni and friends of UAB to contribute as your support impacts our ability to provide the additional resources necessary to pursue excellence."
Donations to the Competitive Excellence Fund are tax-deductible and will help support Blazer student-athletes through Blazer Boosters. Gifts can be given to either the general fund or for a specific sport team, but not directly to a specific student-athlete. This fund will replace previous contributions through collectives. UAB Athletics will continue to support the facilitation of authentic NIL partnerships through Blazer Sports Properties and provide student-athletes with the necessary educational resources to maximize their opportunities in this space.
