BIRMINGHAM – Junior kicker Jonah Delange has been named one of 30 kickers across the country to the Lou Groza Award Watch List, an honor presented annually by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission to the nation's top placekicker.
The reigning American Conference Special Teams Player of the Year was a Lou Groza Award semifinalist last season and was one of just 20 kickers to receive that distinction. He went 21-of-24 on field goal attempts, including a career-long 52-yarder on November 2 against Tulsa, and was a perfect 31-for-31 on PATs. He ranked fifth in the American Conference with 94 total points scored.
A native of Mobile, Alabama, Delange is one of only 11 returning kickers in the nation to have made 20 or more field goals in 2024. In his first season as UAB's placekicker, he made an immediate impact, etching his name into the record books. He currently ranks in the top 10 all-time at UAB in multiple kicking categories. His 21 field goals made last season are the second-most in a single season in program history. He also holds the third-highest single-season field goal percentage at 87.5%, and ranks 10th all-time in career field goals made (21).
Delange was also 7-of-8 on field goal attempts from 40 yards or more.
Accomplishments are tracked throughout the season, with the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award set to announce its 20 semifinalists on Tuesday, November 18. From that group, a panel of over 100 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers will select three finalists, to be announced on Tuesday, November 25. The winner will be revealed on Friday, December 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
