BIRMINGHAM – Get to know UAB men's basketball transfers Chance Westry and Jacob Meyer who both became Blazers this summer.
Westry transferred from Syracuse and then Auburn before that, while Meyer's made stops at Coastal Carolina and Depaul. Westry played limited time at Auburn and Syracuse due two injuries. Meyer was a consistent starter at Depaul playing in 36 games while scoring 8.9 points per game.
Westry and Meyer were able to ask each other a few questions over a game of ping pong after practices concluded.
Q: What made you choose UAB?
Meyer Answer: "Coach Kennedy, I personally think he is a hall of fame coach, and I want to play for the best and be with the best."
Westry Answer: "Just a good fit. Felt like family when I first got on campus, and just to see the new change in me because I haven't played in years due to my injuries. I am ready to be here and show the Blazers what I got."
Q: Scout yourself as a player.
Westry Answer: "I can create for others and score. I love to get in the lane; it is my happy place."
Q: What do you like doing outside of playing ping pong?
Meyer Answer: "Play some video games. I beat Chance in college football not too long ago. "
Q: What kind of music do you listen to?
Meyer Answer: "I am a big Calvin Harris fan. It is kind of like house music, and I am a big, big house music guy."
Westry Answer: "I am in a Tupac face right now, and lately I have been into Gospel. Putting God first, and without him we aren't anything.
Q: What do you think about Birmingham?
Meyer Answer: "I like the southern feel because I am a chill guy. I like to relax and be around the small-town southern vibe."
Westry Answer: "Southern vibes is what it is all about. Birmingham has great food and it's one of the best.
