Jacksonville Classic Opponents Set: Southern Illinois and UTEP

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's basketball team announced that Southern Illinois and UTEP will be its opponents at the Jacksonville Classic on Nov. 24-25.
UAB will meet Southern Illinois for the third time ever on Nov. 24. The Salukis out of the Missouri Valley Conference won 14 games last season. The last time the two teams played was back in 1995 in Hawaii where SIU defeated the Blazers 87-81. The Salukis hold a 2-0 record against UAB, playing both matchups at a neutral site (Hawaii and Columbia, Mo.).
The next day (Nov. 25), UAB will face off against old Conference USA opponent UTEP. The Miners won 18 games last year but only played one Power Four team in Louisville, falling by three 77-74. The Blazers have a rich history with UTEP, as the two teams have played 27 times. UAB holds an 18-9 series advantage and has eight straight wins against the Miners.
The Jacksonville Classic is a full schedule tournament, meaning everyone will play exactly two games. Game times will be released at a later date.
