Blazers Fall at Tulane in Four Sets

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The UAB volleyball team fell 3-1 to Tulane on Sunday afternoon inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.
Tulane jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, using a 7-2 run to establish momentum. The Green Wave continued to build their advantage before closing out the set, 25-14.
The Blazers responded emphatically in the second set, using a 5-0 run to take a 10-3 lead behind a strong service run from Rylee Busse. UAB continued to apply pressure, scoring six consecutive points behind kills from Abby Jones, Sydney Austin and Makayla Meister to extend its advantage to 19-6. The Blazers cruised to a 25-9 set victory to even the match at one set apiece.
The third set was closely contested early before Tulane began to create separation. The Green Wave carried a 15-12 advantage into the media timeout and closed the set on a strong run, taking five of the final six points to win 25-18.
Tulane carried that momentum into the fourth set, opening with an 8-3 run. The hosts continued to extend their lead, using three consecutive points to move ahead by double digits at 17-7 before closing out the set to secure the 3-1 match victory.
Mia Reese led the Blazers with 10 kills, while Meister added nine. Rachel McCollum paced the UAB offense with 27 assists.
UAB returns home Friday, Oct. 16, to host East Carolina. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Hoover High School.
