UAB, Belmont Battle to Scoreless Draw

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's soccer team played Belmont to a 0-0 draw Tuesday night at PNC Field.
The Blazers (4-3-3, 1-1-1 AMER) controlled much of the offensive action, outshooting the Bruins (5-4-2, 1-0-0 MVC) 19-6 and putting seven shots on target. UAB also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
UAB generated several quality chances in the opening half, with Lucas Nordin forcing a save in the 15th minute before Brody Pike and Nordin each had additional shots turned away by the Belmont goalkeeper. Lucas Rizzo added a pair of shots late in the half as the Blazers continued to apply pressure.
The Bruins recorded their lone shot on goal of the match in the 31st minute, but UAB goalkeeper Ethan Schulz made the save to keep the match scoreless.
UAB continued to create opportunities after halftime. Tim Pusback tested the Bruin keeper in the 63rd minute, while Luke Alexander had a shot saved in the 72nd minute. Diego Quevedo and Sam Roberson also recorded second-half shots for the Blazers.
The Blazers finished with 10 shots in the second half and continued to push for the breakthrough late. Carson Brice and Gael Zackrisson each recorded shots in the final two minutes, but Belmont's defense held firm.
Schulz played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded one save as UAB posted its second shutout of the season.
