UAB Wins Series Over Jacksonville with 9-3 Win on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM – After chipping away all game, UAB (7-5) took down Jacksonville (9-3) on Sunday by a score of 9-3. The Blazers recorded at least nine hits in a game for the eighth time this season and are now 6-2 in those games.

However, the bulk of those hits did not start until the Blazers' half of the fourth inning. Brady Waugh broke the scoreless tie with a 2-run shot to right for his second home run in as many days which put UAB up, 2-0.

The Blazers would add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Wesley Helms would score John Paul Head on a JU error. Two batters later and the bases loaded, Baylor Roberts would drive in two more Blazers to put UAB up, 5-0. On the next pitch, Mason Steele singled through the right side to score Austin Pierzynski to cap off the Blazers' 4-run inning.

Chase Ingram delivered a strong start for UAB. The senior right-hander tossed five scoreless innings and struck out three and only surrendered one walk.

The Blazers would add to their lead in the bottom of the seventh and threatened to clinch the run-rule victory. After the first two batters were retired, Mason Steele would single and advance to second on another JU miscue. Alex Dupuy dumped a double down the right field line to score Steele. A walk and a hit by pitch would load the bases for Andrew Hunt who drew a walk and scored the Blazers' eighth run of the afternoon. That total would hold until the bottom of the eighth.

With one down in the inning, Austin Pierzynski launched his second home run of the season which would give UAB a 9-0 lead.

Jacksonville would not go down without a fight, much like the first two games in the series. Cade Walter continued his stellar weekend and hit a 3-run home run to cut into the UAB lead, but it would not be enough as the Blazers took the game and the series over the Dolphins.

NOTES
- Three Blazers recorded multi-hit games.

- Mason Steele picked up his first multi-hit game of the season.

- Alex Dupuy continued his hot streak as he picked up his fourth multi-hit game of the year, all coming in the last five games. He carries a 7-game hit streak into next week.

- Brady Waugh now leads the team with 13 RBI as he picked up two more today en route to his team-leading fourth multi-RBI game of the season. He also recorded his third multi-hit game of 2026.

- Chase Ingram tallied his first win of the season after going 5.0 scoreless innings to start Sunday's game.

- UAB remains at the top of the American Conference with 21 home runs on the season. The Blazers have also homered in nine straight games, compiling a record of 6-3 in those games.

UAB hits the road for a neutral site game in Montgomery at Riverwalk Stadium against South Alabama (9-3). First pitch will be at 6:05 p.m.
