Blazers Look to Continue Momentum at Wichita State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Softball returns to American Conference play with a three-game set at Wichita State this weekend. The Blazers (12-13, 0-3 AMER) are coming off a 9-8 comeback victory at Georgia Tech on Tuesday, hoping to ride the momentum from the upset win to their first conference victory of the season. Wichita State (11-10, 1-2 AMER) lost its opening series of American play last weekend at East Carolina. The Shockers took game one over the Pirates, but lost games two and three.
UAB is searching for its first ever series win over Wichita State, losing both prior series since UAB joined the American for the 2023-24 season.
Game one in Wichita is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 4 p.m. Start on Saturday, and a noon first pitch on Sunday.

- The Blazers hit a season-high three homers at Georgia Tech on Tuesday, winning 9-8.
- UAB was swept to open up conference play, losing all three games to North Texas.
- The first RPI ranking of the season was released earlier in the week. UAB now ranks 91st of 308 teams. UAB is 0-3 in Quad-1 games, 1-1 in Quad-2, 4-6 in Quad-3, and 7-3 in Quad-4.
- Abbi Perkins threw out a runner in all three games against North Texas. She now ranks fifth in the country with nine runners caught stealing.
- Last week, Hannah Dorsett received the first American Conference Weekly Honors of the season for UAB, being named an Honorable Mention following a .500 (11-for-22) week.
- Freshman Charlee Bennett leads the team in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Bennett had a single, a double, and a homer against North Texas for her fourth three-hit game of the season.
- Wichita State is 11-10 this season, including a 1-2 record in conference play.
- The Shockers led #15/#21 Oklahoma State, 8-3, in the bottom of the seventh inning on Tuesday before the game was suspended due to lightning. The game will be resumed on April 8.
- Wichita State tops the American conference with 27 homers this season, the 55th most in the nation.
- Ausha Moore ranks 11th in the country with a .610 on-base percentage, leading the American. Gabby Scott ranks 74th in the nation with her .539 on-base percentage, second in the conference.
- Moore leads the Blazers with a .420 batting average and .760 slugging percentage. She has 21 hits in 50 plate appearances with two doubles and a team-high five home runs. Moore has walked 19 times and been hit seven times.
- Wichita State has a team ERA of 4.50, with their innings-pitched leader, Ryley Nihart, sitting at a 3.71 ERA. Ava Sliger leads the team with a 2.66 ERA, but has only thrown 26.1 innings, compared to Nihart's 60.1.
- Wichita State leads the all-time series 5-3.
- The Shockers are 2-1 at home against the Blazers, winning the last two games.
