Blazers Split Weekend at Stetson Invitational

DELAND, Fla. — It was an up-and-down weekend for the UAB beach volleyball team at the Stetson Invitational. The Blazers (9-8, 1-0) split a pair of matches Saturday to finish the weekend with a 2-2 record.
UAB defeated Florida Gulf Coast (9-7) behind strong performances on Courts 1, 3 and 4. Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant earned a 2-1 victory on Court 1, defeating Alexis Keeter and Ava Lillquist. Claudia Stockard and Sadie Sharpe outlasted Andrea Dietz and Sydney Majick on Court 3, 2-1. Olivia Chychrun and Ava Grace Knott continued their hot streak with a straight-set win on Court 4.
In their second match of the day, the Blazers dropped a close contest to No. 15 Stetson (15-5), 3-2. Haas and Stant won on Court 1 in straight sets, finishing the weekend with three victories. The duo now has 38 career wins together, setting a new program record for wins as a duo.
Chychrun and Knott won their fifth straight match with a two-set victory over Danielle Hernandez and Lucie Nosalkova. The win gave Chychrun 60 career victories, moving her into fourth place in program history. The pair is now 13-4 on the season.
UAB split a pair of matches on Friday, defeating Southern Miss (3-12) before falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (8-8).
The Blazers return to action next week in their first home event of the season, March to May, scheduled for Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21. UAB will host Austin Peay, South Carolina and North Alabama.
