Hicks, Hunt Receive American Conference Awards on Monday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB RHP Justin Hicks and OF Andrew Hunt registered their first career American Conference honors as Hicks was named Pitcher of the Week while Hunt was named an Honorable Mention, the league announced on Monday.
Hicks appeared in three of the Blazers' four wins last week, going 2-0 with 7.0 innings pitched. Hicks recorded six strikeouts, gave up three hits, did not allow a walk, and held opponents to a .125 batting average. In his start vs. North Alabama on Tuesday, Hicks went 5.0 innings, allowed two hits, and faced only 18 batters for his first win of the season.
Hunt was a key part in UAB's success last week. Hunt went 5-for-10 with 10 total bases, seven RBI, five walks, four runs scored, two doubles, and two stolen bases. Two of Hunt's hits, a single and his lone home run of the weekend came on Friday night at Florida Atlantic as he drove in the tying runs on his single and provided much needed insurance with a 9th inning, 2-run home run to secure the 11-8 win for the Blazers.
