The conference honor caps an outstanding academic year for UAB Athletics, which earned recognition at the conference and national levels.
Four Blazer programs received American Conference Team Academic Excellence Awards for posting the league's highest team grade-point average in their respective sports. UAB's four conference-leading teams ranked second among all conference institutions and included men's basketball (3.34 GPA), men's soccer (3.58 GPA), men's tennis (3.80 GPA) and women's tennis (3.90 GPA).
Women's tennis posted the second-highest team GPA of any program in the conference at 3.90, trailing only North Texas women's golf (3.94).
Nationally, UAB volleyball earned the AVCA Team Academic Award after maintaining a team GPA above 3.30 throughout the academic year.
Baseball was named to the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award list for the 11th consecutive season and surpassed a 3.0 team GPA for the 14th straight year. Thirty players recorded at least a 3.0 GPA, including 17 with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and three who finished the academic year with a perfect 4.0. During the spring 2026 semester alone, 10 players earned a 4.0 GPA.
The UAB men's basketball team also received the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award after posting a 3.30 team GPA during the 2025-26 academic year.
Football also celebrated a record-setting year in the classroom, posting the highest two-semester team GPA in program history. Graduate offensive lineman Calib Perez was named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society after maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA while earning his degree in public health and completing his Master of Business Administration. Perez was one of a record 2,596 student-athletes from 365 institutions recognized by the National Football Foundation.
To earn a place on the American Conference All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have completed at least two semesters (or three quarters) of academic work, maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and met the conference's participation requirements in their respective sports.
UAB's success extended beyond the American Conference, as beach volleyball's Olivia Chychrun, Jazzie Haas and Olivia Stant earned Conference USA All-Academic Team honors, while four members of the rifle team garnered SoCon All-Academic recognition.
