GREENVILLE, N.C. – UAB women's soccer (5-5-1, 2-1-0 American) scored twice in the second half to erase an early deficit and earn a 2-1 road victory over East Carolina (2-3-6, 1-1-1 American) on Sunday afternoon at Johnson Stadium.

East Carolina struck first in the fifth minute when Isabella Gutiérrez found the back of the net to give the Pirates a 1-0 advantage. UAB responded by controlling much of the action for the remainder of the opening half, outshooting ECU 6-2 and earning two corner kicks, but entered halftime trailing by one.

The Blazers came out aggressively after the break, putting three shots on frame in the opening 20 minutes of the second half. UAB's pressure paid off in the 60^th minute when Emily Cole scored her second goal of the season to level the match at 1-1.

Less than nine minutes later, Vita Naihin completed the comeback. After Lailah Stewart forced a save from ECU goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich, UAB earned a corner kick, and Naihin scored her second goal of the season off the corner kick in the 69^th minute to put the Blazers ahead 2-1.

UAB continued to apply pressure after taking the lead, recording four more shots and two additional corner kicks while holding East Carolina without a shot over the final 35 minutes of the match. The Blazers closed out the victory after outshooting the Pirates 14-1 in the second half.

UAB finished with a commanding 20-3 advantage in shots, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. The Blazers also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Dietrich made seven saves for ECU, while UAB goalkeeper Macie Murphy recorded one save and earned her fourth win of the season.

Cole and Naihin each scored their second goals of the season. Avery Berryman led UAB with four shots, while Cole, Naihin and Stewart each recorded three. Naihin, Berryman and Stewart each placed two attempts on target.

Up next, UAB hosts North Texas on Thursday, October 1. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
