UAB Volleyball Battles Back To Defeat Jacksonville State 3-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.... The UAB volleyball team (6-21, 0-14 in Conference USA) battled back after being down 2-0 to defeat Jacksonville State (9-19, 2-6 in the Trans America Athletic Conference) 7-15, 13-15, 15-9, 15-3, 15-6.
Freshman outside hitter Martina Shields lead the match in kills and digs and posted a double-double for the Blazers, recording 19 kills and 19 digs. Shields hit for .341 and had two service aces and two total blocks. Junior outside hitter Laura Burke and freshman middle blocker Karen Boyd also posted double-double performances for UAB. Burke had 12 kills and 10 digs and Boyd recorded 13 kills and 11 digs. Senior setter Heather Dempsey added 42 assists for UAB.
Jacksonville State was led by senior outside hitter Kelly Rumph who had 15 kills and 17 digs. Senior setter Heather Beers recorded a match-high 53 assists for Jacksonville State.
UAB returns home to Bartow Arena Friday to take on Conference USA rival Tulane at 7 p.m.
