UAB Head Coach Murry Bartow
"I thought we had a great effort by Will Campbell. He really, of all our
guys, is playing at a high level right now. I thought P.J. (Arnold) played
well in the first half. I think Sidney Ball has given us another nice
player in the rotation. I think Igor (Nikolic) came in tonight and did
some good things.
"It was a good win, especially coming off that heartbreaking loss to Memphis. I was really concerned about how much that would take out of our guys. We are 11-1 now when we out rebound our opponents.
"Houston has some real weapons and they are well coached, so we were concerned coming in. We had four offensive rebounds at Houston, we had 19 tonight. That was really the huge difference in the game."
Houston Head Coach Ray McCallum
"They really played solid tonight. They were more aggressive. (Will)
Campbell was the difference the first half and really set the tone for
them. I still thought holding them to 35 percent shooting was pretty good
for us. And I thought, down five (at the half) I really felt like we could
be in good shape. Foul trouble affected us again with George Williams
getting in foul trouble. Alton Ford had some trouble. I thought they
played consistent, and then in the second half I thought they did a good
job of attacking the basket aggressively. They played big in the lane. It
is just a tough match-up with UAB, with their size and their zone and their
length. There were several trips where we got the stops at the other end,
but we didn't capitalize and extend. Even though we're below them in the
standings, as coaches and players we prepare for victory and we feel like
that we can compete."
